The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity and LRN Announce Deadline Extension for 2009 Prize in Ethics and Additional Awards for StudentsNew York and Los Angeles, December 11, 2008 – The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity today announced it has extended the deadline for the 2009 Prize in Ethics Essay Contest. This decision enables students to take advantage of winter break from their universities and supports the Foundation’s objective to challenge more college students to reflect on society’s most urgent ethical issues. In 2009, the Foundation celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Prize. To mark the special occasion, the Foundation and its corporate partner LRN are announcing additions to the $10,000 in prize money, which include:
Since 1989, The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity has sponsored the Prize in Ethics Essay Contest. This annual competition, open to full-time juniors and seniors, is designed to challenge students to analyze the urgent ethical issues confronting them in today’s complex world. Students are encouraged to write thought-provoking essays based on personal experience that raise questions, single out issues and are rational arguments for ethical action. Thousands of students from hundreds of universities across the nation have participated over the years.
